Repeat after Me: I love Church and I want to be here

I'll start this by saying that I'm not making fun of Church, just the part of going to Church with kids. It's so hard sometimes! Our Church begins at 1 pm and it is the worst time ever for little ones. By the time we get there, they are so tired that they go nuts. Normally we are all so grumpy by the time we get to Church on Sundays, but today was different. Today was funny. Let me explain

Today started out as the typical Sunday. It's always rush rush Sunday morning/afternoon. Shawn and I usually end up having bad attitudes before we even get in the car to leave because the whole 'getting ready' process is so chaotic and stressful. This morning was no different. We struggled to get to Church on time and our kids were going nuts by the time we got there.

Just after Sacrament meeting started a series of funny things started happening. Our apologies to the Chipman family who were sitting in front of us. I am sure they heard Shawn and I laughing through the whole meeting. First: The sacrament bread came around. It got to me and I pulled out a teeny tiny mouse bread crumb as my portion of the sacrament. I started busting up and showed Shawn who started laughing. 2 minutes later Shawn sneezed and the top button of his dress shirt popped off.... More laughter. Maile and Brooks bombard Shawn-hanging from his neck, stepping all over him and his pressed shirt. Shawn pulls out the snacks from our diaper bag and starts feeding mass cookies to Maile and Brooks. I look over at Shawn and I quietly mouthed: sheesh it's like chuck-a-rama in here. Lot's more laughing..... Maile and Brooks keep feasting on cookies. Cookie juice ends up being wiped ALL OVER Shawn. He's wearing navy blue slacks and one side is covered in white cookie smear. Shawn picks up Brooks who slobbers Brown cookie spit from his mouth all over Shawn's sleeve on his white shirt. More laughing.... Since Dallin and Gavin are out of the snack during sacrament stage- we don't feed them things during sacrament. Dallin knows this but turns to Shawn and says: "Hey, I want a snack". Shawn looked at Dallin and whipped out of the diaper bag what he calls 'petting zoo feed'. Those nasty no-namer, whole wheat cracks with fake cheese injected middles. Dallin accepted and ate the whole package. Lot's and lot's more laughing... The little ones start going nuts and can't hold still. Now Brooks is hanging on my neck. Maile is talking Shawn's ear off and we haven't heard a word the speakers have said. I look over at Shawn and he mouths to me: "Repeat after me. I love Church and I want to be here." Laughing, laughing, laughing...... We've been home from Church for 2 hours now and were still laughing.....

Sometimes all you can do is laugh, because otherwise you would be crying. Church is definately not easy with kids! Makes you wonder how our parents survived. I can't wait till we are at the stage that they are at now. Nice and quiet church meetings. (I'll probably miss the little ones keeping us entertained at that point)!

I honestly heard none of it! I think I was in my own world being unhappy right now. At least you two had fun laughing!

Oh! Can we relate!!! Just wait until Maile say's in her loudest voice possible "Dad quit farting" as the bread is being passed. Then having half the ward turning toward you and chuckling. Yeah, that happened to us with Britton a couple of months ago. And for the record Bill didn't pass gas. But it was just as mortifying as if he would have. At least we all understand. Thank goodness we can all laugh

How funny! That made me laugh. I love the part with Shawn's clothes being smeared on. I laughed because Mark hates it when the kids get him dirty, especially in his church clothes!

I LOVE IT!!! It is days like that that you just have to sit back and laugh, and that is just what you did! I thought your sacrament serving was hilarious! I am glad to see you are taking the 1:00 church in stride. I honestly hope it changes soon for you!

Isn't that the truth?? No matter how much MoTab you play in the morning, it still seems like by the time you get out the door...the house is a disaster, the kids are cranky, and both parents are in a bad mood. haha What's that saying...."I didn't say it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it." I definitely need to repeat that to myself 20 times every Sunday!! :)
