I had an experience today that I wanted to write down. We got in from California last night after being gone for a week. I went down to the mailbox and got out the piles of mail and brought it inside. The December LDS Ensign had come. I never really read it, but for some reason I opened it up and the page fell open to an article titled: "The Power and Protection of Worthy Music". I just briefly read through it. There was a quote in there that really stood out. It said: "Fill your minds with worthy sights and sounds. Cultivate your precious gift of the Holy Ghost. Protect it as the priceless gift that it is. Carefully listen for it's quiet communication." I put it to the back of my mind.
I have a radio in my kitchen, and first thing this morning I flipped it on to make breakfast. It was tuned to a local station that plays religious music on Sundays. Normally I might turn it, but I didn't. During the course of the day, I heard a couple of songs that really touched on my emotions and tapped into my memory.
I heard this version of the song, God be with you till we meet again. Almost immediately my mind went back to President Hinkley's funeral services. I was flooded with a lot of emotion. I was going through my horrible bout of postpartum depression and anxiety during the time of his funeral. His death at that time in my life was very hard. I had grown to love him so. I compared how very different I felt today then two years ago. I can't fully describe everything in my thoughts during the song today except that I felt the spirit and there was some quiet communication.
I basically felt the spirit today. How coincidental that I should read the article about music last night and have these experiences today.

this might be my FAVORITE post that i have EVER read! The power of music is so strong, and the holy ghost will dwell in our homes (where we are told to have be as temples for our children) more when we play the music that our Heavenly Father loves.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this post. I need to apply this to my own home for my own children.
